What an Illinois Student Eats in a Week
What an Illinois Student Eats in a Week When I was a high school senior, I had a lot of questions about dorm food. What was it like? Would I enjoy it? Is it better than high school cafeteria food? To help with any questions you may have (and because I thought it would be fun to write about!), I took a picture of every meal I ate throughout the week and pieced the pictures together here. Heres What an Illinois Student (me!) Eats in a Week: Monday 9/25 Breakfast â" Illinois Street Residence Hall On this day, I woke up super early in order to start this blog post off right! I donât get breakfast in the dining hall often, but I thought the first meal of this blog post needed to be from the University itself. Here, youâll see buttermilk pancakes, a pork sausage patty, a hash brown patty, and a tall glass of milk. It was worth getting up a half-hour earlier! Lunch â" Busey-Evans Once my morning classes were done, I walked down the street to Busey-Evans for lunch. There was a huge variety of food that day, but I picked what appealed most to meâ"a grilled cheese sandwich, âroasted vegetable loaded bakerâ (seriously, thatâs what they called it!), cream of tomato soup, Donâs pasta salad, some cheese sauce on the side, and blue Powerade. I loved dipping my grilled cheese into the tomato soup. Dinner â" Illinois Street Residence Hall After an extremely long day (6 classes!), I found my way back to ISR for dinner. In this photo I show off some halal fried chicken wings, an assorted dinner roll, polenta, soy ginger flank steak, and a cold glass of water. The steak tasted great, and I needed the glass of water after a hot day outside! Tuesday 9/26 Breakfast â" My Dorm Room This breakfast is much more like what I normally eat. In this image, you see a brown sugar Pop-Tart, Goldfish crackers, and some homemade cookies that my roommate gave me (thank you!). Usually, I donât get up early enough (I love sleep) to go have a meal at the dining hall. Instead, I see what I have around my room thatâs filling enough, and roll with it! I usually eat while heading to class (i.e. see later days in this post) so I can sleep as much as possible before my 8 a.m. class. Lunch â" Ikenberry Dining Hall Before heading to a music rehearsal, I stopped by Ikenberry with a friend for lunch. To avoid the wait, I chose the shortest line I saw and picked up some soup, golden french fries, beef slices, a chicken sandwich, and a glass of iced water. Whatâs not shown? The awesome chocolate and vanilla ice cream cone I had for dessert! Dinner â" Chomps, ISR I have a wacky schedule early in the week, so I unfortunately did not make it to any dining hall before they all closed. Instead, I headed to Illinois Street Residence Hallâs Chomps (a late-night dining option). My favorite hamburgers are cooked up at Chomps, so here youâll see my swiss cheese hamburger, a side of fries, and a leftover Portilloâs milkshake I kept in the fridge after my my mom took me there during the weekend. Wednesday 9/27 Breakfast â" Smith Memorial Hall On Wednesday morning, I was in a HUGE rush to get to class on time. As the week goes on, I procrastinate getting up in the morning. I quickly grabbed another brown sugar Pop-Tart and headed to my morning piano class (which you can see in the picture). Lunch â" Busey-Evans Dining Hall After a full morning of classes, I walked with a group of friends to Busey-Evans. Above, youâll see two fish-fillet sliders, cheese-stuffed ravioli, potato wedges, and a blue Powerade. The cheese-stuffed ravioli were my favorite part of the whole meal. I enjoyed being able to sit at one of Busey-Evans long dining tables with a large group of friends as I munched on my food. Dinner â" 57 North, Ikenberry NOT PICTURED And here you see⦠nothing! Whoops! But I promise that I did eat dinner, even if it was on the go! On Wednesdays, a lot of my student organizations have meetings, and September 27 was no exception. After one meeting ended, I quickly ran to 57 North, Ikenberryâs alternative convenience-store style food option, and ran back to another meeting. I had a hamburger and a milkshake. I didnât realize that I hadnât taken a picture until after my hamburger was in my stomach and my milkshake was halfway gone. Sorry, friends! Thursday 9/28 Breakfast â" Bus Stop Wanting to take a break from the Pop-Tarts, I tried pouring myself a bowl of Life cereal. After realizing my roommate and I were out of milk (and that I was running a few minutes late), I put the cereal in a container and ran out the door. I didnât even miss my bus! Lunch â" Illinois Street Residence Hall Since I forgot to take a picture of my dinner the night before, I tried to make up for it by including my friendâs lunch in this photo. Before my last rehearsal of the week, I stopped by ISR to grab a plate of spaghetti with marinara sauce, waffle fries, and a blue Powerade. On my friendâs plate, youâll see a hamburger with bacon and french fries. Dinner â" Illinois Street Residence Hall Even though I ate it for lunch that day, I couldnât skip the spaghetti! With mashed potatoes and garlic bread on the side, it was a good meal. Friday 9/28 Breakfast â" Smith Memorial Hall The Pop-Tart returns! Another day of on-the-go breakfast. Since it was Friday, I was glad it was my last day of running out the door in a hurry for a moment. Lunch â" Busey-Evansâ Oodles While this picture doesnât do it justice, this meal was delicious! Oodles is Busey-Evans specialty-lunch dining option open on Fridays. While the line is long, itâs worth the wait. You pick your toppings before a cook mixes your toppings and noodles in a pan to create a yummy pasta dish. On mine, I requested bacon, chicken, cheese, marinara, and a few other items. If you have a little over an hour for lunch on Fridays, drop by Oodles to check it out. Dinner â" Harding Band Building Surprise! Friday was a football game day here on campus. Immediately after one of my classes ended at 3 p.m., I hopped into my uniform, zipped it up, grabbed my horn, and made my way to Memorial Stadium. After a short performance, we walked to go pick up our Jimmy Johns from the Harding Band Building before our Pregame performance. (This is actually not a new picture! You may remember it from my earlier blog post. I figured it was safe to reuse this picture since my Jimmy Johnâs box looks the same every game day.) Thatâs all the pictures I have! It felt much to me like my first day as an adult, the first day I ever felt grown up. As I packed my spanking new bag full of spanking new pens and pencils, I couldnt help but think would all the rumours about head flushing, bullying and heaps upon heaps of homework be true? After about fifteen minutes of worthless gibberish, we went on to our first lessons. The corridors were like a swarming maze. Everyone was crammed in, grabbing on to peoples bags so they wouldnt be pushed over. Finally after taking a few wrong turnings we found the right class and sat in our friendship groups. This lesson was maths, and we watched one of those mind-numbing educational videos. Our teacher, Mrs Branfield had a strong Somerset accent, and was a nice teacher. She wasnt too strict but she had the class under control. I was good at maths back then, so it soon became one of my favourite subjects. I was entered into the Maths Challenge that year, and came out with a Bronze certificate, which was good for my year. Our first lesson sped past and we now were on the mission to find our next class. I was on my own now as no one I knew was in my D.T class. I asked the teacher where my next classroom was, and finally found it after following some kids I recognised from my last lesson. Response to Genocide - 906 Words
After Elie Wiesel was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986, he gave an acceptance speech reflecting upon the true meaning of his novel and reflecting upon the crimes in our history. He revealed how ââ¬Å"silence encourages the tormentorâ⬠while ââ¬Å"indifference [is] the most insidious danger of all.â⬠I find a lot of truth in these words and I agree with his assertion. Individuals tend to get overwhelmed by desperation, a sense of helplessness and fear in the face of acts, such as oppression and genocide. During these times, it is the responsibility of the world community to step in. This is proved to be true by the novel Night, the movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, and by the article called ââ¬Å"A Secret Life.â⬠In the novel, Night, by Elie Wieselâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Now, he can focus solely on his own survival. During the movie, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, many scenes displayed Brunoââ¬â¢s helplessness and inability to help neither the Jew s, nor himself in the end. For instance, Lieutenant Kurt revealed to Brunoââ¬â¢s mother about the concentration camps without the knowledge of Brunoââ¬â¢s father. This enraged him so he sought for his revenge by putting Lieutenant Kurt on the spot with the topic of his father, who was said to have left the country in opposition to the German ways. They made long lasting contributions in the areas of art, architecture, philosophy, math, drama, and science. Answers: 1.Substantive analytical procedures are very helpful in assertion of the transparency of the accounts and the other audit procedures that may have been applied in maintaining the books of account, and preparation of the financial statements. In case of DIPL, the company has been engaged in the business of printing from a long time, and we have been provided with last three years books of account to make our assertion on the transparency of the system of the company. Analytical procedures will include comparison of the financial data with previous year data, the budget prepared by the company, and other industry forecasts and scenarios. We can do the same by conducting ratio analysis, trend analysis, studying of the financial data from the companys previous account. In the information provided by the DIPL financial statements, we will conduct our analysis and comparison, and then decide whether the present situation of the company is better in financial terms than previous years. If g oing by the industry trends we see that the company is not in a better position in comparison to the industry standards, we will then apply possible substantive methods to find the reason of the same. We will check whether effective internal control is maintained by the company. If the actual results and the standard results vary a lot, then further procedures needs to be adopted. As an auditor, inform the management about the same, and try to obtain further more information from the management that may help in further analysis.(Grenier 2017) There can be various reasons behind such deviations and the main work of the audit team is to ascertain the main reason why the company is deviating from the set standards. In the given statements we see that the company is doing better than each previous year, the profit has increased and also there is a steady growth in the financial of the company. This means that the companys internal control is strong, the management has applied diligence in conducting their work and thus the auditor does not need to apply further procedures. The industry data are not available; hence the trend analysis cannot be done. If there is a deviation with the industrial standards then further analytical and substantive methods needs to be applied. But as stated in the document that in the current year, the company has taken a loan of 7.5 million, which requires the company to maintain certain ratios, failure to do so would lead to recall of the loan. So as an auditor, that must be checked and verified w hether the loans are taken on proper terms and how is it affecting the financial of the company(Knechel Salterio 2016). 2.The two types of risk factors that are present in the management of the company and that may lead to material misstatement are that, a single person is authorised to download the receipts, verify the payments and authorise the transfer. This causes a risk of material misstatement, because in terms of important procedures, segregation of duties is very important. Moreover the accounts receivable are received by cheque via mail and that is also a very risk situation as there are chances of information being leaked and hacked. And as stated in the company statements, Judy Bones is given all the responsibility of downloading the receipts from the mail, forwarding the amount, and also reconciling the total batch payments and the account receivables. Thus there is no segregation of duty. The other kind of risk is the one associated with the new IT system, in which installation occurred under extreme pressure without any proper checks and also we see that there are no staffs to do proper reconciliation, before the new IT system was live. Thus the new system was installed without proper verification and that may lead to material misstatement and other inherent risks are associated with the same, as the management has failed to ascertain proper internal control. The other risks are involved, in changing of the method of accounting and accounting policies year after year and that may often impose limitations on the auditor to conduct proper audit(DeZoort Harrison 2016). 3.The two points in the statements that shows that fraud might have occurred is that one there is no segregation of major duties in the company. The clerk is given important duties of preparation of the invoice and recording of the same, then Gay the accounts receivable clerk does all the major work of checking the accuracy, verifying the payment , reconciliation of the books of account and also entering the same into his account statements. The same is in case of e receipts of account receivable, where the payment is collected by a single cashier, who downloads the receipts, verifies the payments and transfers it. And also does the necessary reconciliation on her part. Thus we see that there is no segregation of duty and that may often lead to fraud. The other point is the main associated with the new IT system, where unnecessary pressure was exerted by the managers to install the same without proper reconciliation and checking, thus there might be chances of fraud on part of the ma nagement(Fay Negangard 2017). The risk factors that are identified above, may affect the audit in many ways, because if there is no internal control, the auditor has to perform several other methods and that may increase the complexities. Moreover if there is no proper information provided it may lead to adverse opinions in the audit report. The risks might be such that they are not easily identifiable in the process of audit because many a time, only one person is performing major duties. So there may be problems in cross checking and obtaining hidden information. In all these ways the auditor will face difficulty if the risks are involved(Raiborn, Butler Martin 2016).
